The announcement of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) brought immense joy and hope to the refugees residing in the Majnu Ka Tilla camp. This significant development provided a ray of hope and relief to those who had endured persecution and discrimination in their homeland. Alongside their families and fellow community members, refugees celebrated this momentous occasion with an early Holi celebration marking a step towards recognition and acceptance in their adopted homeland.
Originating from Pakistan, the Hindu community has sought refuge in India due to religious persecution, discrimination, and human rights violations. HAI has been actively operating in the Majnu ka Tila and Signature Bridge camps since 2018 and 2019, respectively, providing essential services such as healthcare, education, livelihood support, and legal assistance.
With the official announcement of the CAA rules on March 11, 2024, the government can now grant citizenship to eligible individuals from minority communities in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Through the Citizenship Facilitation Programme, the government aims to integrate these refugees into Indian society, fostering a sense of belonging and dignity.
Humanitarian Aid International (HAI) has taken on the responsibility of supporting refugees through the citizenship process. By offering legal aid, documentation assistance, advocacy, and other crucial services, HAI aims to empower refugees on their journey to Indian citizenship, ensuring their long-term well-being and resilience.
However, our mission cannot be achieved without your support. Your donation can help us expand our services, reach more refugees, and provide vital resources to support their citizenship journey.
