Since its inception in 2016, HAI has grown its mandate to build a network of Indian grassroot organisations based on the principle of mutual aid, supporting each-other to strengthen institutions and gain greater visibility and recognition. From mobilizing funds for disaster response and recovery to supporting community-led responses in conflict zones, HAI and its LOCAL members have quite a journey to share.

Sphere India
Member

A national humanitarian coalition in India, established in 2003 to promote Sphere standards. It facilitates inter-agency coordination, knowledge sharing, and advocacy among government bodies, NGOs, and the private sector to strengthen disaster response and resilience.

Bond Network
Advisory Group Member

The UK’s leading network for international development, connecting 400+ NGOs to tackle poverty, inequality, and injustice. Established in 1993, it fosters collaboration, influences policy, and strengthens organizations through advocacy, training, and events.

Asian Disaster Reduction & Response Network
Permanent Member

A coalition of national civil society organizations across the Asia-Pacific, founded in 2002 to enhance disaster risk reduction and response. It promotes coordination, information sharing, and collaboration among NGOs and stakeholders.

The World Humanitarian Action Forum, founded in 2008, brings together humanitarian and development organizations to amplify Global South voices, foster inclusive dialogue, and push for systemic changes in the aid sector.

Charter for Change
Steering Committee Member

Launched in 2015, this initiative aims to reform the humanitarian system by empowering local and national organizations. It commits international NGOs to allocate 25% of humanitarian funding to local partners and promote equitable partnerships.

Start Network
Member

A global coalition of 134 humanitarian agencies spanning six continents. Established in 2010, it drives faster, more effective humanitarian response through locally-led initiatives, innovative funding mechanisms, and systemic change.

UN ECOSOC
HAI has Special Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC

The United Nations Economic and Social Council plays a central role in promoting sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental dimensions. It facilitates global policy dialogue, coordination, and collaboration to achieve international goals.

Grand Bargain
LOCAL, led by HAI is the 68th signatory.

An agreement launched at the 2016 World Humanitarian Summit to enhance aid effectiveness and efficiency. It aims to increase direct funding to those in need, reduce bureaucracy, and improve the overall impact of humanitarian action.
